Holiday season is approaching and every year we get excited it is kicked off by Thanksgiving! Many Americans think of Thanksgiving as a wonderful time to celebrate getting out of school for a long weekend, and eating a great dinner including a big turkey.
We at peerTransfer are happy to share some deeper insights on why and how Americans celebrate Thanksgiving, as well as invite our Boston Area friends to a little feast 🙂
Almost every culture in the world has held celebrations of thanks for a plentiful harvest. The American Thanksgiving holiday began as a feast of thanksgiving in the early days (1620ies) of the American colonies.
Pilgrims and Puritans who began emigrating from England carried the tradition of Days of Fasting and Days of Thanksgiving with them to New England.
In the United States, Thanksgiving day is a family tradition where all Americans get together on the fourth Thursday in November with all their relatives and in some cases close friends and/or neighbors as well. While spending the day sitting around, talking, drinking, snacking, watching football games and catching up with family members, an enormous dinner is served in the late afternoon/evening. The dinner usually includes a big turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casseroles, fresh rolls, creamed corn and many pies and cakes for dessert.
It’s traditionally a lazy day of food, family and to give thanks for what they have – make sure to wear lose pants! 🙂
Having said that, peerTransfer has joined forces with Wanderu to give our local international students an opportunity to experience a true Thanksgiving dinner.
